The Beast Incarnate was named as
John Cena’s challenger for August’s pay-per-view with Triple H’s Plan A, Randy
Orton, and Plan B, Seth Rollins, embroiled in scraps with other Superstars.
Lesnar was revealed as Plan C on
Monday Night Raw and if he wins his clash with Cena inside the Staples Center
next month – as Paul Heyman insists he will – the Minnesotan will become world
champion for the first time since 2003.
The Anomaly’s title opportunity came
about after the apparent favourite to fight Cena, Orton, was taken out by Roman
Reigns and it became clear that Dean Ambrose’s rivalry with Mr Money in the
Bank, Rollins, was far from over.
But Cena looks the real loser in
this instance, as even though he defeated Lesnar the last time they met at
Extreme Rules, in 2012, few would bet against the former UFC Heavyweight
Champion backing up conquering The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at
WrestleMania by seizing gold at SummerSlam.
Orton, though, now has to deal with
not only being out of the WWE World Heavyweight Title picture but with the fact
that former Shield man Reigns wants to hurt him.
The grapplers have locked
horns a lot in recent months – and did at the start of Raw when Reigns
bested The Viper and Kane – but a one-on-one encounter may be needed to decide the
better man.
And it seems Ambrose and Rollins –
who scuffled all over the Tampa Bay Times Forum at Battleground on Sunday
evening – are headed that way, too, with The Lunatic Fringe sending out a
message to The Aerialist on the red brand by shellacking Cesaro with a steel
chair.
Stephanie McMahon was arrested on
Raw following her altercation with Brie. The Billion Dollar Princess slapped
long-time enemy Brie Bella as the former Divas Champion prepared to watch her
sister, Nikki, lose to Alicia Fox, Eva Marie, Cameron and Rosa Mendes.
And McMahon – who also ejected Bella
from the arena – was made to pay for her actions when she was charged with
aggravated battery, placed into handcuffs and hauled away by police officers.
Plenty more Superstars and Divas
endured tough nights in Miami, too, with Chris Jericho destroyed by The Wyatt Family; AJ Lee attacked by tag-team partner Paige after the duo’s
victory over Natalya and Emma; and Fandango, thanks to Layla, losing
to Zack Ryder.
However, Bo Dallas had a broad grin
on his face following a win over a LeBron James-dressed Damien Sandow; Dolph
Ziggler conquered The Miz, the man that pipped him to the Intercontinental
Title at Battleground; and Rusev toppled The Great Khali.
Plus, Xavier Woods, in a resplendent
white suit, urged Kofi Kingston and Big E to ‘take what was theirs’ in the wake
of their tag-team reverse to Ryback and Curtis Axel.
