Breaking: PENGASSAN suspends nationwide strike
The
Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has suspended its
nationwide strike with immediate effect, the News Agency of Nigeria is
reporting.
The oil workers union suspended the strike at the end of its
National Executive Council Meeting, which was called to review offers made by
government during days of negotiations.
The union had earlier met with the Minister of Labour and
Productivity, Chris Ngige.
Details of the agreements reached by the parties are sketchy at
this time.
The unions had on July 7 declared a strike over “unresolved
issues” affecting the smooth operation of the oil and gas industry.
The acting general secretary of PENGASSAN, Lumumba Okugbawa, had
told newsmen on Tuesday that some of the association’s demands bordered on
issues that could strengthen the oil and gas industry and the country’s
economy.

Nigerian Minister of information Lai Mohammed earlier this morning made a special appearance on HotFM 98.3 Abuja flagship programme “Peoples’ Assembly” where he clarified Federal Government stand on the present fuel crisis.
He also spoke about the strike action carried out by the Nigeria Labour union (NLC) and its Trade Union Congress counterpart (TUC)

Bayelsa State workers begin strike over unpaid salaries

Civil servants in
Bayelsa State will on Thursday (today) proceed on an indefinite strike over
months of salary arrears owed them by the state government.
This is just as the 21-day ultimatum issued by workers’ unions to the Bayelsa
State Government to pay all outstanding salaries and allowances elapsed on
Wednesday (yesterday).
The state chapters
of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress had issued an
ultimatum to the government on Thursday, April 28, 2016.
They had warned
that at the end of the ultimatum, they would take an action against the
government if it failed to comply with their demands.
State workers are
currently owed four months’ salaries with pensioners being owed seven months’
arrears even as local government council workers are being owed 12 months’
unpaid salaries.

National Electric Regulatory Commission Says No Going Back On Tariff Increase

Fire Destroyed Timber and Machines worth Millions of Naira in Benin
An early morning fire outbreak at the ‘Pipeline Timber Market’ in Benin yesterday destroyed timber and machines worth millions of naira.
An eyewitness, Mr Precious Emmanuel, disclosed that the fire started at about 3 a.m., adding that the prompt response of the fire service helped to save some parts of the market.
“We woke up to see that the market was on fire. We believe that the fire was caused by those boys who smoke Indian hemp in the market.

Nigeria: Labour Ministry Debunks Massive Employment
The federal ministry of labour and employment has debunk reports that it has been tasked with responsibility to begin receiving curriculum vitae (CV) for immediate employment, warning unemployed Nigerians to be wary of being duped.
The ministry in a statement by the deputy director, press, Olowookere Samuel, said, “The attention of the minister of labour and employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has been drawn to an online publication requesting unemployed Nigerian youths to submit application for employment at the federal ministry of labour and employment headquarter and zonal offices nationwide.”
An announcement that the federal government of Nigeria has directed the federal ministry of labour and employment to start receiving CV’s massively nationwide from graduates for employment in 2016 has been trending online.

Fuel scarcity: Tanker drivers to partner Government
Petroleum Tanker
Drivers has pledged to work with the Federal Government to end the ongoing fuel
scarcity across the country.
Its National
Chairman, Comrade Salimon Oladiti, said the union will work round the clock to
ensure the delivery of petroleum products to filling stations across the
country throughout the festive period and beyond.
He expressed the
readiness of Driver to support government at reducing the problem of fuel
scarcity to the barest minimum through the engagement of tanker drivers to work
round the clock, without weekends and holidays, lifting and discharging
products around the country, until queues disappear from filling stations.
FG Reduces Pump Price of Petrol from January 1 2016
Federal Government has said that effective January 1, 2016,
Premium Motor Spirit, PMS otherwise known as petrol, would be sold at eighty
six naira per litre by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC Retail
stations, while other oil marketers would sell at N86.50 per litre.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Executive Secretary of the Petroleum
Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, Farouk Ahmed, also announced the
first quarter 2016 PMS import allocation of three million metric tonnes to the
NNPC and other oil marketers.
On the review of the price of petrol, Ahmed said the reduction in
the price of the commodity was due to an implementation of the revised
components of the Petroleum Products Pricing Template for PMS and household
kerosene.

Guinness Nigeria sues NAFDAC over N1bn fine
Guinness Nigeria Plc has approached a Lagos High Court in Igbosere to challenge the N1bn fine imposed on it by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
The company urged the court to perpetually restrain NAFDAC from publicly discussing, analysing or providing any information to the media, whether print, electronic or in any other manner,” to suggest that the decision to sanction it was lawful.

Nigeria House of Reps fault review of $5.2bn fine imposed on MTN
The House of
Representatives has expressed concern over the controversy trailing and
implications of fine imposed on the South African telecoms company, MTN.
The lawmakers
during the overview of the process leading to the reduction of the N1.040
trillion or $5.2 billion fine frowned at the failure of Nigerian Communications
Commission (NCC) to involve the National Assembly in the process, which they
described as unsatisfactory.
EFCC files fresh charges against ex-NIMASA boss
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has files two fresh charges against Akpobolokemi, former NIMASA DG, and yesterday.
About 24 hours after he was re-arrested in front of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, EFCC slammed two separate charges on Patrick Apkobolokemi, a former Director General of NIMASA and others.

Oil Marketers Get N407bn Subsidy Payment
The Federal Government of Nigeria has agreed the immediate payment of N407 billion ($2.1 billion) owed to fuel importers under a subsidy scheme, the finance ministry said on Wednesday. Africa’s biggest oil producer imports most of its gasoline requirement because of its dilapidated refining system, which President Muhammadu Buhari is keen to revive.
