Commercial Sex Workers In Ghana Says Erratic Power Supply Is Affecting Their Business

Some commercial sex workers in Accra, Ghana are unhappy because inconsistent power supply is spoiling their business.
According to Omg Ghana, 32 sex workers revealed their displeasure about the situation in the country.
Many of the women interviewed reportedly conduct their trade at Toppers, a popular brothel at St. John’s near Dome in Accra.
“I find myself in an emotional frenzy when the dumsor comes…night is a hateful agent with its accompanying social vices like armed robbery and serial killing of women. These things scare me. And I know the men are also scared. So, it throws our business out of balance, and makes everything basaa,” said Gloria.
Another commercial sex worker named Joyce, who is 19 years old said “From where we stand, the dumsor means you can’t see anything on the street; the customers cannot see what we look like. Why would they bother to come?”
Others complained that their high-profile clients like ministers, businessmen, and members of parliament do not like conducting their business when there is no power, as it gets hot, and the environment stops becoming conducive for them.
“For instance, if he wants to go for marathon, like all-night sex orgy, how do you do it in the heat? You can just imagine how the two of you will be sweating profusely without a fan,” said Afia.

Nigerian Oil Workers to Embark on Indefinite Strike

Oil workers in Nigeria are set to embark on an indefinite strike from Monday, December 15th, as they are unhappy about some unresolved issues they have with the Federal Government.
Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) and their counterparts, the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), are adamant about conducting the strike, Premium Times reports.
An official from PENGASSAN is said to have told reporters that ” some of the contentious issues include the decision of the management of Total Nigeria to sack the PENGASSAN zonal Secretary in Port Harcourt and the lack of promotion for workers of the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF).”
The workers also reportedly complained that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) which was sent to the National Assembly for review two years ago is still yet to be passed.
“We (the oil workers) have sufficient reasons, based on information available to us, to believe that the law makers are not prepared to pass the law, even as the state of the country’s petroleum industry has continued to deteriorate as a result of the absence of a regulatory and legal framework for the industry…
This does not augur well for the future of the country’s oil industry, as new investments would continue to elude the country, to the benefit of other oil producing nations around the continent, if the law is not passed. This is not acceptable,” said the official.

APC calls for prayers as it struggles to pick running mate for Buhari

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has assured Nigerians that the choice of its presidential running mate will be made within the context of the best democratic ideals, just like that of its presidential candidate.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party urged Nigerians to ignore the widespread and misleading reports in the traditional and social media about the choice of the APC presidential running mate, saying the party has yet to even meet, not to talk of picking a running mate.
It described the reports that a running mate has been picked to run with the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, as unnecessarily sensational, downright speculative and totally misleading.
“We are using this opportunity to tell Nigerians to pray for us as we seek to pick a running mate for our presidential candidate. This is because this choice is not just for us but for all of Nigeria,” APC said
The party said everyone of the candidates who have been speculated as a running mate to Gen. Buhari is unquestionably competent to be a Vice President or even President, adding, however, that no choice has yet been made by the party.
“We are glad with the feedback we have received from Nigerians on the transparent and rancour-free manner in which our presidential primaries was organized. We are assuring Nigerians that the choice of our presidential running mate will also be guided by best democratic ideals.
“We appreciate the nationwide interest that the choice of our presidential candidate and his running mate has generated. It is a mark of the confidence that Nigerians repose in us. We assure that we will not disappoint our compatriots who have seen our party as the agent of the change they so much crave,” it said.
