Nigeria Summoned Indonesian ambassador over the execution of two Nigerians yesterday

The Federal government through the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali, has summoned the Indonesian ambassador to Nigeria to protest the execution of two Nigerians by firing squad in Indonesian.

In a statement signed by the Foreign Affairs ministry’s Director of Public Communication, Ogbole Amedu-Ode yesterday January 18th, FG alleged that 2 Nigerians instead of one earlier made known to them by the Indonesian government were killed at Sunday's execution.

According to the statement, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, approved the execution of only one Nigerian identified as Daniel Emenuo in the list of six condemned drugs convicts in December 2014.

However another Nigerian Solomon Okafor who was mistaken for a Malawian named Namaona Denis was also killed during the execution. The federal government says the Indonesian government executed both men despite pleas for clemency
"The executions were carried out despite persistent pleas for clemency made by the federal government, including the National Assembly. The executions had taken place against the grain of the excellent relations that subsist between Nigeria and Indonesia. Thus, the foreign minister has summoned the Indonesian Ambassador to register Nigeria’s protest" the statement read.
The Federal government expressed their condolence to the families of the two men executed and also warned Nigerians to desist from drug trafficking.

We'll Be in Trouble If PDP Gets Four More Years - Buhari

Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has warned that Nigeria would be in trouble if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rules for another four years.
Buhari issued the warning at a rally of the APC in Enugu on Saturday. He promised to revamp the Nigerian Coal Corporation in Enugu and use it for power generation to cater for the electricity needs of people in the South-East geo-political zone and beyond.
The former head of state also promised that moribund industries would be revitalize and the agriculture sector would be encouraged through soft loans to farmers, if he is elected into office.
"We will make sure that there is regular electricity so that people do not buy generator and spend their hard-earned resources to fuel it.
"We cannot achieve these things if you do not vote. We want you to get your PVCs, vote and make sure that your vote counts.
"If you make mistake by giving PDP four more years, we will be in trouble," Buhari said.
He regretted that Nigeria used to have the Nigeria Airways and Shipping Line but under the PDP in the last 16 years, they have all vanished.
Buhari promised to end corruption in Nigeria, if he was elected into office as President. He also lamented that in Baga, Borno State, Boko Haram has killed over 300 persons in the past three days.
He made it clear that Boko Haram has nothing to do with religion, because those killing in the name of religion either do not believe in it or do not know what they are doing.

Over 39 killed in Potiskum, Maiduguri Markets by Female Suicide Bombers

Over 20 people were said to be killed at Kasuwar Jagwal GSM market in the commercial capital of Potiskum, Yobe State, yesterday, when two female suicide bombers attack the market, one of them aged about 15, blew herself up in the crowded market.
The blasts came just a day after a young girl thought to be aged about 10 killed 19 at a Chicken Market in Maiduguri, in the neighbouring Borno State.
Potiskum is in the west and about 100 kilometres from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, that witnessed series of bomb blasts including the suicide bomber that hit a police formation weekend.
Residents said the suicide bombers invaded the crowded market at about 3pm and detonated their Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs.
A resident of Potiskum, Mallam Aliyu Usman, told Vanguard News Paper on phone, yesterday, that the death toll could rise as most of those who sustained injuries had lost much blood due to bleeding before security operatives could reach the scene.
Unconfirmed sources said over 20 people were killed, adding that their mangled bodies were seen at the scene of the blast.
Earlier on Saturday, two people were killed when a car exploded outside a police station in Potiskum.
