Pay me my money, Fasehun tells Buhari

The founder of the Odua People’s Congress, Dr. Fredrick Fasehun, has asked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to pay him and his organisation the money owed them for the protection of oil pipelines.
He explained that six companies were given the contract by the Goodluck Jonathan administration to guard pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
Fasehun said a total of 18,000 personnel were sent to the field out of which 4,000 were members of the OPC.

Nigeria Police promote 558 schoolteachers


Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has approved the promotion of five hundred and fifty eight teachers in police primary and secondary schools across the country.
It was learnt that the promotion, which takes immediate effect, was meant to address the complaints among the teaching staff and also to motivate them to perform better.

500,000 Teaching jobs on the way in 2016

The employment of 500,000 people as teachers is the highlight of the N6.08 trillion budget estimates for next year presented yesterday to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The proposal, the first by the Buhari administration, seeks to stimulate the economy, making it more competitive by focusing on infrastructural development, delivering inclusive growth and prioritising the welfare of Nigerians.

Sultan of Brunei bans Christmas: No Santa hat or Xmas greetings



The Sultan of Brunei has banned public celebrations of Christmas, including sending festive greetings and wearing Santa hats, in a move aimed at prohibiting propagation of any other religion other than Islam.
In the oil-rich south east Asian nation, Muslims seen celebrating Christmas and those of any denomination found organising public celebrations could face up to five years jail.

Somalia Government bans Christmas and New Year celebrations


Somalia’s Federal government has banned the celebrations of Christmas and New Year in the capital Mogadishu. It says celebrating Christmas is against faith of Somali Muslims and won’t allow it happen in the country.
Director General of Somalia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, Sheikh Mohamed Khayrow announced the decision in a Press Conference held in Mogadishu along with the Vice Chairman of the Supreme Religious Council (SRC), Sheikh Nur Barud Gurhan.

Nigeria: Senate extends 2015 budget implementation to March 2016


The Nigeria Senate on Tuesday amended the 2015 Supplementary Appropriation Act to enable the Executive arm of government to implement the N557bn capital expenditure component in the budget till March next year.
The amendment was perfected at plenary shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari presented the 2016 budget estimates to the joint session of the National Assembly.

The Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has advised former President Goodluck Jonathan to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari and confess all he knows about the $2bn arms scandal.
Sagay told newsmen during an interview that if Jonathan could provide adequate information, he would be accorded the adequate respect by virtue of being a former Head of State.
