We rejected Jonathan’s $3 million – Islamic groups



Two Islamic organisations were offered $3 million by the past administration to secure their members support the re-election of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, an official has said.
Abdullahi Shuaib, the Coordinator of the Conference of Islamic Organisations, CIO, stated this on Saturday at the 22nd National Islamic Training Programme NITP, held at Odosengolu near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

Shoot-out, explosions rock Maiduguri as Boko Haram battles Nigerian soldiers

Gunmen believed to be members of the Boko Haram were on Sunday evening involved in a shoot-out with soldiers in Aladuwari village – about 2 km away from Maiduguri.
The attackers arrived the area at about 6 p.m. local time, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.
Also at about 8 p.m., two suicide bombers, believed to be females, detonated explosives near FOMWAN School in Jiddari area of Maiduguri. The casualty figure from the explosions is yet to be ascertained.

Miss Universe Winner sends message to Miss Colombia after crowning mistake


Miss Universe winner Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach penned a message praising Miss Colombia after Steve Harvey mistakenly awarded her the crown during last Sunday's telecast.

Steve Harvey, the man who famously gave the Miss Universe crown to the wrong contestant, has now offered the world Easter greetings on Christmas day.
"Merry Easter, y'all!" ran the caption to a picture of smiling Harvey, smoking a cigar and flashing a peace sign. The picture was posted Friday on Harvey's social media accounts.

Residents of Zaria, Kaduna State, yesterday accused leader of the Shiite Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky of running a parallel government, through which he brought untold hardship on them for over 20 years.
The residents called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency ban the Zakzaky-led Islamic movement from their communities.

Policeman kills twin brothers, Friend and Self (Graphic)


According to reports, a drunk policeman, identify as Stephen James, on Saturday shot and killed three men at a hotel in the Ketu area of Lagos State.
He shot and killed twin brothers identified as Taiwo and Kehinde Oyesunle (who were the only children of their mother) and their friend known simply as Jeje.

Van Gaal Admits Pressure Increasing After Man United Loss

Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat to Stoke City on Boxing Day to make it their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat. Louis van Gaal, who expressed disappointment when talking to Sky Sports and MUTV after the final whistle at the Britannia Stadium, criticized his team for failing to play.
“My thoughts are that we didn’t dare to play football in the first half and then we gave a very bad goal away. That was too much. They scored from a free-kick and then it was half-time.
“We have spoken with each other and I have to say the second half was much better, we created one or two chances and you have to score. Then the belief is coming back and we played better in the second half, but the problem is we didn’t dare to play.
