Nollywood star, Juliana Olayode, popular known
as Toyosi in the comedy series – Jenifa’s Diary, has said God told her to
maintain her sexual virginity to have favour and ‘open doors’ in life.
She disclosed this in Lagos when she bore her
mind to entertainment correspondents on what she thinks about having sex before
marriage.

Death toll from Nigerian meningitis outbreak rises to 328
The Federal Ministry of Health has issued public
advisory warning to Nigerians as the number of deaths associated with
cerebrospinal meningitis outbreak has risen to 328 in 90 Local Government Areas
in 16 states including Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Nassarawa,
Jigawa, FCT, Gombe, Taraba , Yobe, Kano, Osun, Cross Rivers, Lagos and
Plateau.
At least 200 Indian police officers in hospital after meal
At
least 200 Indian paramilitary police were hospitalised with suspected food poisoning
after eating meals at a training camp in the southern state of Kerala, police
said on Sunday.
Training
cadets and security forces belonging to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
complained of diarrhoea and vomiting after eating rice and fish curry for
dinner on Saturday at a training camp in Ernakulam district.
Public Alert! Advisory on Meningitis outbreak in Nigeria: Reduce hand shaking, kissing, avoid overcrowding
Nigeria's
Ministry of Health has issued a public advisory following the outbreak of
Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) that has spread across the country and mostly
affecting States in the upper parts of the country which fall within the
African Meningitis Belt.
Other
Countries that are facing similar outbreaks at the moment include our
West-African Neighbours like Niger, Chad, Cameroun, Togo, and Burkina Faso. The
larger African Meningitis Belt consists of 26 Countries that stretch from
Senegal, Gambia and Guinea Bissau in the west coast to eastern countries of
Eritrea and Ethiopia.
2019: Buhari will not go for second term – Chekwas Okorie
The presidential candidate of the United Progressives Party
(UPP) in the 2015 presidential election, Chief Chekwas Okorie, has predicted
that President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) will
not re-contest the Presidential election in 2019.
According
to him, the APC will not give the presidency another shot because the party
already knows it cannot be as fortunate as it was in 2015. Okorie said this in
a chat with the media during the weekend.
Three Boko Haram bombers killed in early morning attacks
Three persons,
all suspected Boko Haram bombers, died in their own explosions in the early
hours of Sunday April 2, when they attempted to invade Maiduguri, the Borno
state capital, with explosive vests strapped around their bodies, an official
said.
Premium Times
reports that two of the bombers tried to make entry into the city through one
of the known entry points near Muna Garage, a popular bus station along
Maidugurui-Gamboru road.
Dickson launches compulsory education tax in Bayelsa
The Governor of
Bayelsa State, Mr. Seriake Dickson, has introduced a compulsory education levy
in the state.
The governor,
who made this known at a media chat on Friday, said the tax cuts across civil
servants, businesses, contractors, parents, among others.
Dickson, who
said the levy was part of measures to protect the future of education in the
state, insisted that anybody opposed to the tax would be considered an enemy of
the state.

45 Serving, Ex-Presidents Expected to Grace Obasanjo’s 80th Birthday Celebration
At least 45 serving and past
presidents across the globe are expected to grace the 80th birthday ceremony of
former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, an official has said.
The Chairman, Publicity and Media
Sub-committee of ‘Obasanjo at 80’, Dayo Adeneye, stated this on Wednesday while speaking with journalists.
Mr. Adeneye, who is the Ogun
State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, said the high point of the
ceremony will include the commissioning of the multi-billion naira Presidential
Library and Mosque projects in Abeokuta.
He described Mr. Obasanjo as a worthy,
exemplary leader worthy of emulation and architect of modern Nigeria.

Gambia: Jammeh vows not to step down
Gambian President Yahya Jammeh said he would not step down and condemned mediation by West African regional bloc, ECOWAS, that aims to get him to leave power after he lost a December 1 election to challenger Adama Barrow.
The comments on state television late on Tuesday were a hardening of the veteran president’s position after days in which hopes mounted he could be persuaded to hand over power at the end of his mandate on January 18 2017, when Mr. Barrow is due to be inaugurated.
