FCTA arrests 1 469 street traders

Abuja - The FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday said the FCT Administration had arrested a total of 1 469 street traders and hawkers in the FCT between July and August this year.
The minister made the disclosure in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Minister, Muhammad Sule.
"This administration has resolved to instil sanity and serenity in the city, About 1 417 street trader and hawkers were prosecuted and convicted within the period to serve as deterrent.
"Out of the number, 99 were sentenced to various terms in prison," the statement read.
The minister said that 2 300 nuisance cases reported to the Abuja Environmental Protection Board were fully addressed in the FCT during the period under review.
He said that about 235 complaints on bleeding manholes in the city were resolved between July 1, and August 16.
Mohammed said that sanitary inspectors visited 520 premises in the FCT, giving health talk on sanitation to residents, while 11 premises were fumigated.
“Pilot survey of available waste receptacles was carried out in Area 1, Section I in Garki I District; Aso Drive, Gana Street and Maitama District of the city," he said.
