A brace from Rabiu Ali gave Nigeria a needed 4-2 win
over Mozambique in their second group game in the 2014 African Nations
Championships.
Ifeanyi Ede pulled the Super Eagle even in the 11th minute after the Mozambicans had taken the lead through Ivan Dario in the 10th minute.
Ali scored his first of the game in the 20th minute to put the West Africans in the lead but it was soon level when Diogo Antonio slotted home after the Nigerian goalie slipped as he approached to smother the chance.
Rabiu Ali scored his second in the 53rd minute and the lead was extended in the 88th minute when Barnabas Imenger put the ball in the net.
The result gives Nigeria its first three points of the competition and a chance for progression to the quarter finals after South Africa drew 1-1 with Mali in the other Group A game played in the afternoon.
The home side went ahead in the 22nd minute thanks to a penalty from Bernard Parker but the Malians fought back and got their leveller in the 54th minute through a long range strike from Iborouhima Sidibe.
South Africa lead Group A with four points while Nigeria are second with 3 points. Mali are third with a point while Mozambique are bottom after two losses.
The final Group A games will be played on Sunday 19th January, 2013 simultaneous at the Cape Town and Athlone Stadia.
