CHAN 2014: Jonathan Splashes N30m Gift On Super Eagles

President Goouck Jonathan yesterday made a cash gift of about N30 million to the Super Eagles team for clinching the bronze medal at the just concluded CHAN African cup of nations in South Africa.
Speaking when he hosted the team to a presidential cocktail reception at the presidential villa, Abuja yesterday night, Jonathan announced a donation of N1 million each for the players.
He said the head coach, Stephen Keshi to get N1.5m, while the assistant coaches were given N1 million.
The team doctor, team physiotherapist, team administrator, team coordinator, team pyschologist media officer, security officer and equipment officers received N500, 000 each.
President Jonathan said Nigeria was succeeding in the sports sector because of the synergy between the legislature and the executive, adding that the performance of the team at the just concluded CHAN competition in South Africa was outstanding.
He described as instructive the match between Nigeria and Morroco, just as he said even though the Super Eagles got bronze medals, the spirit of Nigeria was shown at the event.
“I am particularly proud of this team. You performed gallantly. Some of you, according to the coach, may make the team for the World Cup this year. Our name is ranked among the best in the world,” Jonathan noted.
The President said his administration would continue to support sports men and women in the country.
