Filipino world professional boxing
champion Manny Pacquiao has been ranked as the second highest-paid celebrity in
the world by American business magazine and online financial news platform
Forbes.
At 36, the world-famous boxer,
pastor, congressman, and basketball playing coach from General Santos City has
earned a total of $148 million, or approximately P6.7 billion, from his boxing
career alone.
His endorsement deals with popular
international brands such as Nike, Foot Locker, Wonderful Pistachios, Nestle's
Butterfinger, as well as many more endorsement deals for local brands in the
Philippines add up to $12 million (more than P500 million) to his total amount
of wealth, according to Forbes.
Manny has been sidelined for the
rest of the year because of a shoulder surgery he had to undergo following an
injury sustained in what was dubbed as the “Fight of the Century” with
undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather.
Ahead of the pack is Mayweather, who
has a total of $300 million worth of earnings from both his boxing career and
endorsement deals.
Mayweather just shattered the record
for athlete earnings, going more than double the amount of Tiger Wood's $115
million earnings in 2008.
Popstar Katy Perry soared up to the
third spot with a total of $135 million worth of earnings, after being 9th in
the 2014 World's Highest Paid Celebrities by Forbes, while British-Irish
boyband One Direction comes in at fourth with earnings that amounted to $130
million as of writing.
Meanwhile, 61-year-old American
radio and television personality Howard Stern, known for his long-running radio
show “The Howard Stern Show,” is 5th on the list with a total amount of
earnings that reached up to $95 million.
Stern went high up from the 62nd
spot he held in Forbes' 2014 list of the World's Highest Paid Celebrities.
Holding the later part of the Top 10
is American singer-songwriter Garth Brooks in the 6th spot with $90 million,
American author James Patterson in the 7th spot with $89 million, world-famous
American actor and “Avengers” star Robert Downey Jr. in the 8th spot with $80
million, American singer-songwriter, actress and philanthropist Taylor Swift in
the 8th spot as well with $80 million, and Portuguese professional soccer
player Cristiano Ronaldo in the 10th spot with $79.5 million.
