NIGERIA: CBN EXTENDS BVN REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Central Bank of Nigeria has extended the Bank Verification Number exercise that was scheduled to end today June 30th 2015. The new deadline as announced is now October 31st 2015.

Before the extension many commercial banks in the country has been inundated with customers besieging them to ensure that they get there BV Numbers.

However some customers who spoke to Rosacomms are questioning the rationale behind all these policies being introduced by every CBN governor since Charles Soludo.

Peter Ogaba wondered why the central bank won’t introduce a full proof policy that will checkmate all the fraudulent activities they are trying to curtail with these policies.

Esther Obi supporting Peter took us through the various policies, she said Charles Soludo as CBN governor came with consolidation of Banks which saw many weak banks go under, Sanusi Lamido also introduce the 10 digit scheme for account number across all banks and now Godwin Emeifeli BVN.

She says the Nation is losing adequate man hours pursuing all these policies which in the long run affect the country economically; however bank officials and customers can now breathe a sigh of relief with the extension.
