A former Captain of Nigeria’s national football team, Sunday Oliseh, has been officially unveiled, as the new coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
At the ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, Nigeria’s capital, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, assured the former national team captain that “the federation will give him all the support he needs to succeed”.
In his acceptance speech, Coach Oliseh said players not playing top flight club football would no longer be invited, with exception to those graduating from the age grade teams.
“I am not coming as a messiah. I am not coming to create miracles but I will do my best.
“My assistants are all here on merit. I will not invite foreigner who will come here and act like I am bigger than you.
“We will work with the technical committee, because if we fail, they fail,” he said.
The 40 year-old is taking over from Coach Stephen Keshi and will after the unveiling, begin preparations for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Tanzania in the first week of September as well as an international friendly yet to be announced by the Federation.
