Chief Coach of Nigeria’s U-23 Dream Team VI, Samson Siasia has come out to deny the rumours that he would invite Russia-based Super Eagles’ captain Ahmed Musa and Chelsea’s of England star, John Mikel Obi to his team for the football event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The rule of the game gives each football team in the Olympics the chance to feature three overage players.
There have been rumours that Siasia is considering bringing in Musa, who plays as forward for Russian club CSKA Moscow and Mikel who is currently plying his trade in the English Premier League to beef up his Dream Team VI for the Summer Games in Brazil.
“I wouldn’t have done that,” said Siasia, a former coach of the senior national team. “The time has not come for picking overage players for the Olympics and there is no need and no plan to do that now.”
“When the time comes, I will let the world know who among the overage players are going with us to the Olympics and who can fit into our programme,” he said.
Nigeria picked one of the three Africa’s tickets for the Olympics at the last qualifying tournament, U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal. They also scaled all hurdles to win the championship.
