FIFA Rankings: Nigeria drop in latest Ranking

Nigeria have dropped seven places in the monthly FIFA rankings, according to the November rankings released on Thursday by world football governing body FIFA. The Super Eagles dropped from 52 to 59. The downward movement marks a continual drop for the national team in the last four months.
The three-time African champions dropped to the 12th position on the continent.
Current African champions, Ivory Coast maintained the top spot amongst African teams. Africa’s best team to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Algeria, is next to the Ivorians and are followed by Ghana and Cape Verde. The other teams of Senegal, Tunisia, Cameroon, Congo Guinea, Congo DR and Egypt, follow in that order. These teams are all ranked ahead of Nigeria.
Nigeria’s rivals, Cameroon, are no longer one of the world’s top 50 ranked teams. The Indomitable Lions, who sacked Coach Volker Finke, last week, dropped three places to the 51st spot, their lowest ranking since 2013.

APC vows to fulfill N5,000 unemployment Monthly package

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has assured Nigerians that it will not renege on its campaign promise to pay N5, 000 each monthly to 25 million most vulnerable Nigerians, while calling on the citizens to ignore the “mischievous” attempt by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to confuse and mislead them on this issue.
The party said with the Treasury Single Account of the Buhari administration, N1.4 trillion has been mopped up from various banks and are now safely in the TSA.
The party also said the government has set aside $2.5 billion for various infrastructural projects and another N2.5 trillion as special intervention fund.
Nigerian Senators were on Tuesday were sharply divided along party lines when PDP members canvassed a motion for the payment of N5000 stipend to all unemployed youth as promised by the APC.
The motion appeared an attempt by the opposition party to mock the APC-government that is already struggling with severe revenue shortage.
The PDP later issued a statement on Wednesday saying the APC Senators were only doing the bidding of their party, which it said only used the monthly stipend as campaign strategy and that the party never intended to implement it.

Police disperse pro-Biafra agitators in Asaba

The Police in Delta on Friday used teargas to disperse dozens of pro-Biafra agitators who staged a protest rally in Asaba.
The protesters said they were in solidarity with the Indigenous People of Biafra.
Some members of the group were arrested for blocking the Asaba-Benin expressway.
They chanted songs calling for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Biafran group.
However, a police source said the arrested members were later released following “an order from above”.
Members of the group had poured into the Asaba-Benin expressway, blocking a large portion of the ever-busy road, from Summit Junction to Coker Junction axis in Asaba.
The group held up vehicular movement on the road for hours, forcing many transporters to make a U-turn, diverting into Asaba main town, thereby causing a major gridlock.
However, police patrol teams from the Delta Police Command confronted the protesters, using tear gas to disperse them.
One of the protesters, Uche Obiakor, said the police intervention in the rally was injustice to the group, saying that members of IPOB were on a peaceful rally.

Wike's Media Aide Resigns for Lack of Funds

The Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Opunabo Inko-Tariah, has resigned from his position.
Inko-Tariah, who announced his resignation on Friday, alleged that his office had been starved of funds to operate.
In a copy of his resignation letter issued in Port Harcourt, Inko-Tariah expressed gratitude to Governor Nyesom Wike for giving him the opportunity to serve in his government.
The former aide to the governor explained that his office was starved of funds throughout the five months he operated as his media aide.
Inko-Tariah also said that professional advice given to the governor were not acted upon.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress in the state has hailed Inko-Tariah’s decision to leave the current administration in the state.
The Rivers State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Chris Finebone, said the party was not surprised that the former aide to the governor was telling “sordid stories of neglect and disrespect” for his views and advice by Governor Wike.
The APC further said that it was in no doubt that more Rivers people would soon see the light and take the part of honour just like Inko-Tariah had done.

UK suspends flights from Sinai over bomb risk concerns

Britain has said it is concerned that a Russian airliner that crashed in Sinai may have been brought down by a bomb, prompting it to temporarily suspend flights from Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Wednesday's announcement came four days after the Russian Airbus crashed in northern Sinai, killing all 224 people on board, just 23 minutes after taking off from Sharm el-Sheikh.
"While the investigation is still ongoing we cannot say categorically why the Russian jet crashed, the office of Prime Minister David Cameron said in a statement.
"But as more information has come to light, we have become concerned that the plane may well have been brought down by an explosive device," he said.
A Russian aviation source told the Reuters news agency that the investigation into the crash is looking into the possibility of an object stowed on board causing the disaster.
"There are two versions now under consideration: something stowed inside [the plane] and a technical fault," the source said.
"But the airplane could not just break apart in the air - there should be some action. A rocket is unlikely as there are no signs of that."

Senate rejects proposal to pay unemployed youths monthly

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday rejected a motion for the payment of N5, 000 monthly allowance to unemployed youths in the country.
The motion was sponsored by Philip Aduda (PDP, FCT) but was greeted with shouts of “no, no” when he tried to explain it.
Attempts by the Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, to second the motion were disrupted by the rowdiness.
Intervening, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, posed the question but the senators responded along party lines.
While Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members yelled ‘’aye’’ in favour of the motion, All Progressives Congress (APC) senators, who were in majority, rejected it.
However, a motion calling for the probe of the utilisation of Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) funds by the immediate past administration was adopted by the senators.
