Court dismisses 50-count charge against Sylva

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday, dismissed the 50-count charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against the former governor of Bayelsa State, and All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in the state, Mr. Timipre Sylva.
Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has dismissed the 50-count charge of money laundering preferred against Bayelsa State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva and others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The judge, in a ruling yesterday on the preliminary objection by Sylva and two others, held that his court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the charge, which he said was an abuse of process.
Justice Ademola said since one of two similar charges filed by the EFCC against Sylva and others had been dismissed and the other struck out, the decision to consolidate the earlier charges in the new one showed desperation to convict them at all costs.

48 Nigerians deported from UK Not 500 as Reported

Forty eight Nigerians who were deported from the United Kingdom, arrived the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, at about 8am aboard a chartered flight, yesterday.
Some of the deportees queried the action of the British government.
Spokesperson of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kings Ekpedeme, confirmed the development, but said the figure was not up to 500 as speculated.  He said those who arrived include 44 men and four females.
“About 48 Nigerians were deported by the government of the United Kingdom. They arrived Lagos yesterday onboard a chartered flight. They were allowed to go because the offence they were accused of are immigration related. They are 48 and not 500 as being rumoured. The deportees include 44 adult male and four female,” he added.
Ekpedeme said the deportees were arrested by British police.
Some Nigerians recently expressed concern over UK’s plan to deport 29,000 Nigerians, and said due process be followed in the exercise.

United Nations: 2015 hottest year on record

The year 2015 is shaping up to be the hottest on record, the +United Nations’s weather agency said Wednesday, a week ahead of a crucial climate change summit in Paris.
“2015 is likely to be the hottest year on record, with ocean surface temperatures at the highest level since measurements began,” said Michel Jarraud, head of the World Meteorological Organization.
“This is all bad news for the planet,” he added in a statement.
The WMO said data from the first 10 months of the year suggested temperatures over land and sea would tick in at their highest level ever measured this year, after already reaching record highs in 2014.
The UN agency said the preliminary data showed the global average surface temperature has reached “the symbolic and significant milestone” of 1.0 degree Celsius (1.8 degree Fahrenheit) above mid-19th century levels.
Global surface temperatures this year are also about 0.73 degrees Celsius above the 1961-1990 average of 14 degrees Celsius, WMO said.
The UN agency usually waits to have data stretching over a full year before drawing any conclusions, but said it wanted to release its preliminary findings “to inform negotiators at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris.”
More than 145 world leaders are set to gather in the French capital Monday to launch the 12-day conference aimed at securing a rescue pact for the global climate aimed at capping global warming at two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) above the pre-industrial era.
“Greenhouse gas emissions, which are causing climate change, can be controlled,” Jarraud said.
“We have the knowledge and the tools to act. We have a choice,” he said. “Future generations will not.”

Hacker ‘mr.grey’ stole a record 1.2 billion Internet credentials-FBI

A hacker who once advertised having access to user account information for websites like Facebook and Twitter has been linked through a Russian email address to the theft of a record 1.2 billion Internet credentials, the FBI said in court documents.
That hacker, known as “mr.grey,” was identified based on data from a cyber security firm that announced in August 2014 that it had determined an alleged Russian crime ring was responsible for stealing information from more than 420,000 websites, the documents said.
The papers, made public last week by a federal court in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, provide a window into the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s probe of what would amount to the largest collection of stolen user names and passwords.
The court papers were filed in support of a search warrant the FBI sought in December 2014 and that was executed a month later related to email records.
The FBI investigation was prompted by last year’s announcement by Milwaukee-based cyber security firm Hold Security that it obtained information that a Russian hacker group it dubbed CyberVor had stolen the 1.2 billion credentials and more than 500 million email addresses.

The FBI subsequently found lists of domain names and utilities that investigators believe were used to send spam, the documents said.

TalkZone: I won't let his mother keep our baby

I have a baby by a man. We have been together for two and a half years. He was living with his mother and I was sharing house with one of my sisters. I had to pay half for everything and when I got pregnant I became sickly and my boyfriend said he was going to rent a place so that the both of us could live. He told his mother that he was leaving home and she told him that he should wait until the baby was born to see if the baby is really his. He suggested that to me and I started to cry and told him that I did not know he didn't trust me. She said he trusted me but just to please his mother he would wait.
One day when he came by he told me to get ready, he was going to show me a place. He took me to a place and showed me a two bedroom place. He said that it belonged to a friend of his and the friend was going abroad to live and he would leave everything in the house for us to use. I was so glad because the only thing I had at my sister was a bed and a dresser.
He moved me in and slept with me the first night. He didn't tell his mother about the new place, so sometimes he would sleep with me at the new place and sometimes at home. He moved his clothes piece by piece for his mother's house and finally he told her that I had a place and he can't let me stay there alone. His mother hates me for nothing at all. I haven't done her anything. She has it to say that because of me her son is not giving her anything and that is a lie. He is not giving her as much as she used to get but he still supports he.

Which are healthier: Egg whites or whole eggs?

There are a lot of misconceptions about eggs out there. Let’s take a couple of minutes to tackle one of the biggies — egg whites versus whole eggs. There is a lot of misinformation out there, so let’s sift through the myths and finally figure out which is healthier — egg whites or whole eggs?
Egg yolks have been demonized for decades as harbingers of weight gain and heart disease, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Whole eggs are a nutritious food, and you’re actually doing your body a disservice by completely ditching the yolks. Here are four reasons whole eggs nutritionally beat out egg whites.
Egg whites alone can deplete nutrients.
Eating just egg whites can lead to biotin deficiency. Egg whites contain avidin, which is a substance which binds to biotin. Without the biotin found in the yolk to bind to, eating excessive amounts of egg whites can cause avidin to bind to the biotin stored in your body. In contrast, eggs are a food pre-packaged for you by nature. Both the white and the yolk work together to make a nutritionally complete food, whereas egg whites alone are really only half the story.

FIFA May Hand Platini ‘Life’ Ban

+FIFATV’s ethics watchdog wants Michel Platini banned for life over a suspect payment, the European football chief’s lawyer said on Tuesday.
The FIFA vice president is already serving a 90-day suspension while an investigation is held into a $2 million sum he received from FIFA president Sepp Blatter who is also suspended.
Platini’s lawyer Thibaud d’Ales revealed the FIFA’s life ban demand which he described as a “scandal” and “excessive”.
“This ban is subject to the proof of corruption, but the punishment is clearly excessive,” D’Ales said.
“It’s not based on anything in the case.”
Blatter’s representatives refused to comment on whether the same request has been made against the Swiss official.
FIFA’s investigatory chamber announced Monday that it has opened a case against Blatter and Platini and that it was aiming to announce a decision next month.

Nigeria: FG To Review Aviation Policy Soon – Minister

The Federal Government on Tuesday said it would soon review the Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Policy to accommodate the planned policies of the present administration.
This is contained in a statement by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mr Yakubu Dati in Lagos.
It said that the Minister of State for Aviation, Capt. Hadi Sirika made this known while speaking at the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) 2015 World Aviation Forum in Montreal, Canada.
The statement said the planned review would include a Master Plan to reform institutions, airports (both domestic and international hubs) and national airlines, to provide domestic and international services.
“Nigeria, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, will continue to upgrade and develop aviation infrastructure to improve aviation safety and security.
“This will create an enabling environment for growth of airlines and other service providers, as well as protecting the interest of aviation end-users,” it quoted Sirika as saying.
The statement said ICAO’s President, Dr Bernard Aliu in his address, noted that it was necessary for the organisation to assist Member States in the implementation of ICAO standards and policies.

500 Nigerians deported from the United Kingdom

A plane carrying about 500 Nigerians deported from the UK has landed in Lagos.
According to reports from BBC, the deportees are not happy to be back and those who don’t have relatives in the Lagos are stranded in the airport.
Recently, Nigeria Government expressed concern over UK’s plan to deport 29,000 Nigerians, and has insisted that due process be followed before Nigerians are removed from the UK.
The West African nation says Britain must ensure that those been deported are really Nigerians, medically fit to travel and have a role to play in the country – meaning they should be able to fit into Nigerian society.
