Nigerian Minister of information Lai Mohammed earlier this morning made a special appearance on HotFM 98.3 Abuja flagship programme “Peoples’ Assembly” where he clarified Federal Government stand on the present fuel crisis.
He also spoke about the strike action carried out by the Nigeria Labour union (NLC) and its Trade Union Congress counterpart (TUC)

Bayelsa State workers begin strike over unpaid salaries

Civil servants in Bayelsa State will on Thursday (today) proceed on an indefinite strike over months of salary arrears owed them by the state government.
This is just as the 21-day ultimatum issued by workers’ unions to the Bayelsa State Government to pay all outstanding salaries and allowances elapsed on Wednesday (yesterday).
The state chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress had issued an ultimatum to the government on Thursday, April 28, 2016.
They had warned that at the end of the ultimatum, they would take an action against the government if it failed to comply with their demands.
State workers are currently owed four months’ salaries with pensioners being owed seven months’ arrears even as local government council workers are being owed 12 months’ unpaid salaries.

Mr. Dangote made a commitment to end malnutrition, hunger and starvation in the refugee camps and other parts of the country.

EFCC secure remand warrant to keep Fani-Kayode

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured a remand warrant to further detain ex-Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, who was detained on Monday over an alleged receipt of public funds to the tune of N840 million out of the N4 billion payout in the heat of the presidential election in 2015.

Give me Reasons why Nigeria needs a foreign coach, Sports Minister tells NFF

Nigeria’s Sports Minister Solomon Dalung has demanded justification from the leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) over their planned moved to hire a foreign coach for the country’s national football team, the Super Eagles.
At a meeting held at his Abuja office on Tuesday, Dalung gave the NFF four weeks to submit a ‘comprehensive report’ on why it wants to hire a foreign coach for the Super Eagles.
The sports minister and the executive board of the NFF met for over two hours on Tuesday with the biggest topic of discussion centred on Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and the NFF’s decision to hire a foreign coach for the team.
NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, is insisting on a foreign coach for the Super Eagles following the failure to make the next Africa Cup of Nations after losing out to Egypt, but Dalung remains unconvinced that no Nigeria coach is good enough.

National Electric Regulatory Commission Says No Going Back On Tariff Increase


Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission, NERC, has expressed its readiness to commence February 1st increase on Electricity tariff despite complaints.
In an exclusive interview with Rosacomms, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Tony Aka assured Nigerian electricity consumers that arrangement has been concluded to ease the suffering of the consumers even in the face of the new tariff.

Minister of Federal Capital Territory Angry Over Environment Situation In Kuje


Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Bello has frowned at the Kuje Area Council Chairman, Shabban Tete for not maintaining a clean environment.
Bello made this known at a visit to a Junior Secondary School, Kuje in presentation of learning materials to indigent students of the FCT by the Nigerian Turkish international Colleges Foundation, NTIC.

Switzerland to return another $300m Abacha looted funds to Nigeria


The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has assured Nigerians that negotiations are ongoing with a number of countries on the modalities for the repatriation of some looted funds stashed abroad.
The minister stated that the Federal Government had been in touch with Switzerland, which he said, had earlier repatriated $700m to Nigeria. He noted that another $300m that was recovered would soon be repatriated to Nigeria.

Nigeria: Presidency again denies withdrawing 2016 budget


The Presidency on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari has not withdrawn the 2016 Budget from the National Assembly.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said this in his reaction to enquiries made on the whereabouts of the document.
There were reports earlier today that the document had been declared missing in the National Assembly.
