Attempt to hijack Turkish plane to Sochi foiled

A passenger jet flying from Ukraine to Turkey was diverted following a botched hijack attempt by a man demanding to be taken to Sochi, Russia.
However the hijacker was tricked by the pilot who landed at Istanbul instead, where after a four hour stand-off the Ukrainian-national was arrested.
The drama came
as the Winter Olympics opened in the Russian resort city, with thousands of athletes from around the world pouring into the tightly secured stadium amid warnings the games could be a terrorism target.
